Quincho Barrilete
is an all-girl orphanage on the Island of Ometepe. It is home to ten
girls ages eight to eighteen all of whom have been sexually abused. These
girls were taken out of their horrific family situations and placed in this government run
orphanage for their own protection. Unfortunately, Quincho has been abandoned by the Nicaraguan government.
When discovered by missionaries, Helen Vindas and Mike and Joan Vilasi, the orphanage
was in shambles. The facility was deteriorating and there was literally no
food in the cabinets. In a little over a year the conditions at Quincho
have improved greatly due to donations. Missionaries Mike and Joan
Vilasi now help run the orphanage. Multiple renovations have occurred at
Quincho. Recently the facility has been fenced in providing
additional safety for the girls and the retention wall at the lake has
been reinforced. There is currently a psychologist, who works with the
girls daily. The older girls are given sewing lessons twice a
week and everyone helps in the garden. Quincho still requires numerous repairs and the
cost for the girls to live there totals over $1500 per month. Quincho's
next project is to redo the laundry area and bathrooms early next year.
These ten
girls are so loving and happy despite their past and present situations.
Would you please consider sending a donation in order for these girls to remain
in a safe environment where the message of Jesus Christ is shared.
