Alvaro comes from a family of 8 boys. The family used to live in the San Juan River area. The river creates a natural border between Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The children were abandoned by their parents. The Government took the children and placed them in a Children’s Center in Managua. Later the parents came and took 4 of the children, and the others remained at the Center. Alvaro had the opportunity to go and live with a family in Rivas.
Years later the Government checked on Alvaro to see how he was doing in Rivas. They found that Alvaro was being mistreated verbally and physically by the family. As well, they didn’t have him in school, and they were having him do a lot of work looking after their animals. Alvaro was taken from that family and, at the age of 9, he came to live at CICRIN.
Alvaro has adapted very well at CICRIN. During his time at CICRIN, he has been able to overcome some problems. He is presently in Grade VI at Elementary School and is doing very well. One of his hobbies is to play soccer with his friends from Church. He also, likes to fix bicycles. He wants to learn English and takes every opportunity to learn the language.
