Ovaldo came to the orphanage in January 1991, when he was 9 years old. He comes from a very poor family that lives on the other side of the volcano Maderas on the island of Ometepe. His mom was the only person in his house that worked. She washed clothes and did ironing for others.

When Ovaldo came to CICRIN, he had no schooling. Presently he is in grade 7 at the high school which is about 2 1/2 km. From the orphanage, Ovaldo rides his bicycle to and from school. His favorite foods are apples and hamburgers.
Ovaldo is the oldest boy at CICRIN. He is very kind and likes to help others. Ovaldo enjoys playing soccer on Sunday afternoons with his friends from church. He wants to continue his studies, even thought it has not been easy for him.
If CICRIN closes, Ovaldo will have to return home and will not have an opportunity to continue his studies. His only job option will be to work on the land as a laborer.
